La Cala de Mijas is a central point of Mijas Costa located between Fuengirola and Calahonda. Originally it was a small fishing village, like many others on the Costa del Sol. It is situated pretty close to the Málaga International Airport – only 20 minutes by car.
With the silhouette of the old 16th century Moorish watchtower of Torre Vieja as a backdrop and the moon reflecting on the sea, the village celebrates a season of ‘Noches de Luna y Playa’ – nights of the moon and the beach. Hot summer months of July and August are magical in La Cala as the promenade turns into a festival of classical music and Flamenco dancing.
The golden sandy beaches of La Cala de Mijas are usually pretty quiet and not overloaded with tourists which makes it a perfect destination for those who cherish peace and tranquility.
